Nick and Jane Bailey.
We have been married for 25 years, have 3 children (and a Sprocker Spaniel, called Scrumpy) and lived in the small rural village of Tockington near Bristol for many years. We recently moved back to Clifton in Bristol to a small pied a terre and have renovated the Topsham house as a future home.
Jane runs her own book-keeping business and works for many diverse clients from estate agents to farm equipment dealers. Nick has also run his own property management business for over 40 years and now specialises in period refurbishments, new builds and holiday lets. We have been running holiday lets in Topsham, Devon, Bodrum in Turkey & Playa Blanca in Lanzarote for the last 20 years and are delighted with the new addition to our portfolio, Shapter House in Topsham.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT SHAPTER HOUSE
Lovely house in fantastic central Topsham location
5/5 Stayed Jul 2019 susan w.
We really enjoyed our week at this property. The house is really homely and was spacious for us as we were a family of 5 so everyone got a bedroom but you could comfortably fit more people in. The house had everything we needed and it was lovely to have somewhere for the dog (large and well kitted out utility room for her to sleep/stay in) and to store the bikes (down the side of the house). There was actually quite a large drive for parking (for Topsham!) however access is a bit tight but we managed it with our large Alhambra. The hosts weren't around but were very helpful from afar and left lots of useful info and instructions. The one bit of constructive feedback would be that although the garden is really gorgeous we did need to clean down the decking and table area in order to use it but once we did (only took a minute) we had some lovely evenings having family dinners out there. The garden gets lots of sun but has good shading as well so you get the best of both. Topsham itself is so lovely - safe and kid and dog friendly. We enjoyed various activities in the local area including Crealy adventure park, Darts Farm shops and restaurant, Dart Country park, cycling the Route 2 to Exmouth and the various establishments within Topsham (swimming pool with inflatables, saturday market, Plum cafe for lovely milkshakes, Route 2 cafe for good coffee, the excellent new gin bar!). The Topsham wine shop is well worth a visit too as Jim in there really knows how yo advise and the prices are reasonable). We ran and cycled regularly from the door of the house and also used the train so we didn't actually need the car that much. All in all we had a really lovely time and we would definitely stay in this gorgeous comfortable house again! Published 27 Jul 2019
Perfect house for a family break
5/5 Stayed Jun 2019 Frank R.
We had quite a hard time getting down the M5 to Topsham so it was a wonderful relief to arrive at Shapter House and realise that the trip was well worthwhile. The house looked lovely on the photographs and the reality was not disappointing. It was beautifully furnished throughout and it very easy to settle into. The kitchen and conservatory both opened out onto the garden which again was beautifully laid out and maintained. We were able to get two cars in the driveway, very handy in Topsham. But you can pretty well get everything you want in the town itself by walking. It's very well situated for shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Nick and Jane have done a wonderful job of turning this property into a fine home and we were very happy to spend our family week there. Published 3 Jul 2019
Shapter House Topsham
5/5 Stayed Dec 2019/Jan 2020 Mayer family, Lancs
The four generations of our family thoroughly enjoyed our weeks holiday in your beautiful Topsham home over the New Year period. Shapter House is beautifully appointed and is perfect for a relaxing holiday, it is perfect for dining in and equally appealing for dining out in one of the many wonderful bars and restaurants! Perfect! We will most certainly consider a return visit to Shapter House. Published 17 Jan 2020
Beautiful house and garden in great Topsham location
5/5 Stayed May 2019 JOHN G.CHICHESTER, UK
A substantial and well equipped house in the charming village of Topsham. The house benefits from a fantastic kitchen and beautiful secluded and sunny garden. Its location between Topsham's main street and the station is perfect, with parking a real plus. Our first time in Topsham, and we could not have wished for a better property to stay in. Lots of great restaurants, two riverside pubs and a charming 10 minute train ride to Exmouth worth it for the view from the train. Large M&S foodhall next door to Exmouth station, and incredible produce at Darts Farm (but do support the local shops in Topsham too !)Published 12 May 2019
