1 SHAPTER COTTAGES, White Street, Topsham

The cottage is in a quiet location (conservation area) only about 150-metre walk from the town centre and harbour, at the end of a private cul-de-sac. Unlike adjacent cottages, we have a living extension and have no vehicle or pedestrian traffic passing our windows.

Downstairs comprises: entrance porch, kitchen-diner with wood strip floor & feature fireplace. Traditional hand-made kitchen with Belfast sink, granite worktops, ceramic hob, fan assisted oven and microwave, dishwasher, glazed dresser and  pine dining table. Entrance to:

Sitting room with dual aspect windows, cathedral ceiling with skylight, large LCD digital T.V., VHS video, DVD player, and CD/tape/FM hi-fi system, and useful library of reference books, novels, videos, CDs & DVDs. Leather sofa, 2 armchairs, access door to garden.

On the first floor, accessed by feature curved staircase: double bedroom with period fireplace and pine furniture. New fully tiled bathroom with full size bath, thermostatic shower, WC, built in basin and heated towel rail. 

On the second floor, a delightful twin bedded room with triple aspect windows.

All bedrooms have pillows, duvets, linen and towels and there is ample storage for clothes and personal possessions. The cottage is well furnished in natural materials and numerous original water colour paintings. 

The cottage is always warm and cosy, heated by gas central heating. Laundry & bedding, towels, heating, hot water and electricity are all inclusive.

OUTSIDE, The pretty Mediterranean style garden,  is well stocked with bulbs, shrubs and exotic trees. Two separate paved areas provide relaxation for different moods and there is a secluded corner for outdoor meals, BBQs, cocktails or quiet reflection. There is a small guest annex in garden with bedroom (bunk bed with pull out double), laundry & utility room with additional WC, shower, basin, automatic washing machine & dryer. 

PARKING and TRANSPORT:  There is limited free on-street parking at the top of White Street, in Holman Way (100m away) or in the pay and display car park (in Holman Way) close to the cottage (£1.70 per 24hrs.) The railway station is only 5 minutes walk as is the main bus stop for services around Devon.

Topsham and the Surrounding Area

The conservation area of Topsham provides narrow streets of historic houses, beautiful Dutch inspired Georgian homes, quality pubs, restaurants and shops and overlooks the Ex estuary and the beautiful hills beyond. The town boasts a heated outdoor swimming pool (open around 6 months a year), tennis courts, a bowling green & numerous other excellent facilities all within an easy walk of the cottage. Just click on this link  MAP , this gives you a map & birds eye view of the area.  Click on BIRDS EYE & you can see us in the middle of the screen, we are at the end of the four red roofed cottages, ours has the extension and is surrounded by greenery. For interest, hold down your left mouse button & you can drag the map (right) towards the river/Fore Street or anywhere else in the Town.

Boating and fishing enthusiasts have quick access by water to Exmouth and Dawlish and on out to sea for all the delights of the Devon coastline.

The cathedral city of Exeter is just a few minutes away and offers fabulous shopping, architecture, waterside bars & restaurants

Train enthusiasts will enjoy the surrounding areas with a station just a few minutes walk form the cottage, with hourly service to Exeter.

Artists will be in their element with the wonderful combination of village, estuary, country or wildlife all within easy reach. 

Bird watching fans are well catered for, with the internationally renowned RSPB bird sanctuary just 15 minutes walk from the cottage.

Golfers will enjoy the numerous superb facilities of the many golf courses within a 20-mile radius. Exeter Golf Club & Woodbury are only a few minutes from the cottage.

The Nigel Mansell “World of Motor Racing” museum can be found at Woodbury Golf & Country Club just 10 minutes away, and there are many activities and beaches nearby for families to explore.

There is also superb walking, biking or horse riding country close by or just enjoy the charms of the cottage and the town!
